Lions Helping People in Our Communities!
Frequently Asked Questions
The Sweet on Sight program is a new opportunity for Clubs to fundraise in support of their local service efforts, while at the same time, helping their Sight & Hearing Foundation in its efforts to serve the entire state.
1. When does the Sweet on Sight program happen?
The Sweet on Sight program officially kicks off on November 19 th , 2007 and the sales period runs for six weeks through December 24 th . However, Clubs interested in participating can order and sell any time during the year, not just during the 6 week period.
There will also be a statewide service activity on May 3 rd and 4 th . This effort will bring Lions out in their communities for eyeglass and hearing aid collection. It will also be an opportunity for Clubs to do additional fundraising.
2. What is Sweet on Sight?
The Sweet on Sight program is an opportunity for Lions, Lioness and Leos Clubs to raise money to benefit their local community and its needs through the sale of See's Candies. The Sweet on Sight program also benefits the Oregon Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation.
Clubs have the ability to order and then sell, either directly or at a particular location, See's candy. The proceeds are kept by your Club to support your community service efforts.
The Foundation, in conjunction with See's, will provide technical assistance for marketing and ordering. The Foundation benefits from the program based on the total volume of sales of all participating Clubs. Based on the total volume of sales, the Foundation will receive a check from See's for a percentage of that volume.
3. Why this program?
Clubs in the Multiple District continue to see an increase in the demand for their support in their communities. So too, the Foundation has experienced an increase in demand for services on a statewide level. The Sweet on Sight program was developed as a response to being able to meet these increased needs.
4. How will this benefit my Lions Club?
Clubs keep all of the proceeds from the sale of candy. This program also is an opportunity to raise awareness in your local community about your work as Lions.
5. My Club already sells See's candy as a fundraiser. Do we have to participate with the Foundation?
No. Your Club can continue to do your own fundraising if you wish. The Foundation's program is not to compete with current club candy sale efforts. At your request, the Foundation will provide you with marketing materials that you can adapt to your own sales plans if you wish.
If you are selling under $10,000 in candy you might consider ordering through the Sweet on Sight program, as your order will help increase the total volume of sales and will increase the benefit to the Foundation. You will need only to use a different account number to place your order. Nothing else would change for your Club's efforts.
6. Do participating Clubs have to share the proceeds of their sales with the Sight & Hearing Foundation?
No. Participating Clubs can keep the net proceeds of their sales for use in their local communities. The more a Club sells, the higher the net proceeds will be.
7. How does this program benefit the Oregon Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation?
The Sight & Hearing Foundation benefits from the total volume of orders that participating Clubs make during the program. For example: If all of the participating Clubs order $75,000 worth of product, the Foundation will receive a check from See's in the amount of $5,625.
8. Does my Club have to pay for product up front?
No. Unlike some other programs, Clubs that participate in Sweet on Sight are able to place an order and do not have to pay up front. A Club will have thirty (30) days from the time they receive their order to pay their invoice which will come with their order from See's.
9. Who does my Club pay? The Sight & Hearing Foundation?
No. Participating Clubs will be invoiced and should pay See's Candies directly.
With each order your Club places, See's will include an invoice for the product you have ordered. Clubs have 30 days to pay this invoice, directly to See's.
10. Who should a person make their check out to?
A person who is buying candy from you should make their check out to your Club. Please note: the purchase of See's candy from your Club is not tax-deductible even though it supports a charitable purpose.
11. How much does shipping cost?
Shipping is free on orders of 50 pounds of candy or more. See's will ship directly to your Club, or if your order will not be 50 pounds or more, See's can ship combined orders to a single location. Think about partnering in shipping with another Club in your area.
12. What is the turn around on orders?
See's needs five (5) days to fulfill and ship your order from the time your order is placed.
13. There are other service Clubs in my community that sell See's Candy and have for years. How can we possibly compete against that?
First, don't despair, the circle of individuals or businesses that you or your Club members know might be very different than people in other service clubs. Look to those circles first to successfully sell.
If another service club sells candy during the holidays, plan to sell during a different time of year, such as Valentine's Day or Mother's Day.
You do not have to sell "door to door" at all. Consider selling to friends, family, neighbors or business associates. See's candy makes an excellent holiday gift for businesses to use for clients or as gifts for parties.
Your Club can sell See's at a particular location (called on-site sales.) If you have a tent or wagon you use for events, sell from that. If you know a local business, like a grocery store, contact them about selling in front of that location on a particular day or series of days.
14. How do we place an order?
Placing an order is very easy! Lisa Nelson, the See's representative working with the Foundation on this program will help you place your first order if your Club has not sold See's candy before. If your Club has experience selling See's candy, your ordering process will be the same.
See's will provide very easy to use order forms, with instructions on how to fill them out and submit them. Contact Lisa at 503.203.8189 to receive sales materials and discuss your order.
15. What are the marketing materials participating Clubs receive?
