WHAT
DO WE NEED?
1.
We need all eyeglasses with metal frames. They may be in any state
of repair.
2. We need all plastic frames and lenses, if the pair is complete
and not missing lenses or earpieces.
3. We can use sunglasses if they are clean and in good condition.
4. We need all hearing aids and parts.
WHAT
DON'T WE WANT?
1.
We don't need lenses by themselves - there really is no demand
for them nor any way to recycle them.
2. We don't need eyeglass cases.
3. We don't need hearing aid batteries.
WHAT
CAN YOU DO TO HELP?
1.
Step up collections in your area. Contact local businesses about
putting a collection box in their office or building.
2. Challenge local schools and students to collect eyeglasses as
a community service project. Provide incentives and rewards.
3. Have a club member in each club to pre-sort all collected eyeglasses.
Keep the hearing aids in a separate container.
4. Transport eyeglasses to or from the OLSHF office or our storage
facility.
WHERE
DO YOU SEND THE EYEGLASSES?
1.
Save the yellow Lions collection boxes to reuse - put the collected
items in other boxes.
2. Discard unnecessary parts (i.e. cases, loose lenses, etc.)
3. Place all hearing aids in a small bag and place at the top of
a box of eyeglasses.
4. Outside the greater Portland area, take the boxes to your nearest
Safeway Pharmacy or speak to the manager and ask him/her to please
ship them to Safeway's Clackamas Distribution Center. We have a
trailer on their property and we have volunteers to pick up the
eyeglasses. Be sure to say thank you! The Safeway stores are doing
Lions a favor. Label each box as follows:
Lions Used Eyeglasses
c/o Safeway Distribution Center
Clackamas, OR 97015
5. In the Portland area, bring them to our offices at:
Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation
