| Patient
Care Program |
The Patient
Care Program was created more than 30 years ago to help financially
needy Oregonians receive the eye and ear surgery they need but
cannot afford. Qualified applicants receive quality medical treatment
with dignity, confidentiality and compassion.
The Oregon
Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation's Board of Trustees allocates
funds each year for this program. The Patient Care Committee meets
on the first Thursday of every month to review applicants referred
to the program through Lions clubs across the state.
Each case
is thoroughly examined and weighed against established qualifications
and guidelines. Every year, the Committee is able to help an average
of 50 people from all parts of the state and from all age groups.
Our Committee works hard to make the best use of its funds.
Thanks to
the generosity of doctors and hospitals across the state, we usually
pay around 1/3 the total regular cost for each procedure we sponsor.
This allows us to help more people each year. In most cases, when
the Committee sponsors an individual for treatment, they sponsor
the individual outright. The patient is not responsible for any
of the cost of the procedure.
